::Report:: Spring Sledding At It's Best!
Posted by Marvin tha Moose on 2009-03-17 08:17:56 AM EDT
Spring sledding has never been better but rain, snow and warm temps will raise a little havoc with trails this week. The base is still hard packed however warm temps will break it up so conditions may not be perfect but all projects have been out early this week to smooth up surfaces. Most won’t be out again until the weather cools off.
No reports of water problems yet but with these warm temps they will spring up so sledders are reminded to use caution. Although there isn’t a lot of traffic we are receiving reports of speed issues so please, practice safe sledding and keep speed under control.
Also, marked trails are located where they are for a reason. Usually because the landowner has asked that the trail be there………….so please, let’s keep good landowner relations by staying on the marked trail.
Looking around the Crown all major ITS trails were groomed early this week with no reported problem areas. Trails are starting to pick up some waves in some areas but overall conditions remain good.
Low lying areas are beginning to pose some issues that will require sledders attention. There will be water holes opening up and a few washouts may be possible. With 2200 miles of trails it is impossible for projects to find all the problem areas so sledders are advised to use caution especially in low lying areas, and around rivers and streams and stick to marked routes on the lakes.
On the culinary side you can tell the season is waning as there isn’t must going on but the Linneus Sno Sports will have a Maine Maple Sunday Pancake Breakfast at the clubhouse and the Washburn club will still have breakfast Saturday and Sunday.
